The Ferndale Cat Shelter is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing medical care, adoption services, foster homes, and trap-neuter-release programs for felines in the metro Detroit area. As a no-kill organization, our mission is to improve the lives of local cats and to foster a new, higher standard of cat guardianship within our community. Our licensed shelter is the Catfé Lounge, a cat café that serves as our hub for our many activities, including cat adoption services, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising events.

Our name may give the impression that we are owned or funded by the city of Ferndale; however, this is false. Our shelter is administered by a dedicated board of cat lovers and is largely operated by volunteers. We receive no federal, state, or municipal funding, and are entirely dependent upon donations (which include Catfé admission fees and adoption fees).

That’s why we offer a pet food pantry – stocked with food for both cats and dogs – as well as engaging community events and educational opportunities. Given the diverse and vibrant community in which we reside, we greatly value inclusivity and welcome people from all ethnicities, cultures, gender expressions, backgrounds, and walks of life.

2023 proves to be a transitional and transformative year for FCS as we move into our new, expanded Catfé Lounge at 686 Livernois. A long list of renovations awaits, from carpentry to HVAC repair to door replacement. Now more than ever, volunteers and donations are crucial to the success of our mission.
