Meet Gris, a homeless, handsome young kit that recently wandered into the arms of a kind FCS volunteer. Because of his easy going and sweet disposition, his rescuer thought he’d be a purrfect candidate for the Catfe and find his family in a snap. Two days later, FCS made an appointment for Gris to be neutered and dropped him off at a partner vet. A couple hours later, we got a call that made our hearts drop; Gris tested positive for FeLV. We were so bummed since we’d just received the same call for DotDotDot days prior.

Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is a retrovirus that infects cats. If not defeated by the animal’s immune system, the virus weakens the cat’s ability to fight diseases like cancer. FeLV is cat-to-cat contagious. FeLV+ cats should only live with other FeLV+ cats or in a single cat home. OR with non-FeLV cats who are vaccinated. The vaccination is 100% effective!

DotDotDot was in a foster home alone and seemed lonely. Her foster spends time with her but we thought a buddy could help. We plan to introduce them and hope DotDotDot and Gris can be friends!

Caring for kitties with FeLV can be costly. We currently have a dozen in foster homes. Not only do they require the staples of food and litter, they require additional medical care. A few have been treated for FIP recently and had a full recovery! ProBoost also aids their immune support (read more about it here: https://proboostnow.com/products/proboost-30-pack).
