Meet DotDotDot, a lovely young kitty that wandered onto the porch of a kind FCS volunteer one spring morning. With no ownership established, DotDotDot came into the rescue and began the vetting process. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with FeLV and our hearts dropped.
Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) is a retrovirus that infects cats. If not defeated by the animal’s immune system, the virus weakens the cat’s immune system, which can lead to diseases like cancer. Because FeLV is cat-to-cat contagious, FeLV+ cats should only live with other FeLV+ cats or in a single cat home. OR with non-FeLV cats who are vaccinated. The FeLV vaccination is 100% effective!
Because DotDotDot’s namesake is based on the Creatrilogy book series which encourages the power of originality and imagination, we’ve embarked on setting our sights beyond what can be expected. DotDotDot has made her mark on her rescuer’s heart with her sweet disposition and gentle spirit and we intend to see that her life, regardless of its length, is full of love, compassion and care. But we need support from our community to do it. Caring for kitties with FelV can be costly. We currently have a dozen in foster care. Not only do they require the staples of food and litter, they require additional medical care. Recently, we had a generous supporter donate ProBoost to aid in DotDotDot’s immune support (you can read more about it here: https://proboostnow.com/ products/proboost-30-pack) but we will need to do more.
DotDotDot currently resides with her finder. She’s amazing with toddlers and other kitties. We don’t know what her life-span will be and we would love to find her a permanent foster.
Fostering is a donation of time and love, and it makes the difference for hundreds of cats in Ferndale each year. Can you open your heart and home to fostering an FeLV kitty?
Through Ferndale Cat Shelter, fosters are paired with a volunteer Foster Coordinator who will support you through your foster experience. The shelter will provide food, toys, and supplies, along with medical care and support.
