Training Cats – BitingBattuta Toot in the tower Let's talk about biting.  A cat or kitten bite can be very dangerous if they bite enough to cause bleeding.  The bacteria can cause real issues.  A cat or kitten bite should not be taken lightly and a visit to the local clinic immediately afterwards when the bite is significant is usually a good idea.  Worst case, clean the wound and put antibacterial on it before dressing the wound.  Having said that, there are ways to work with a cat or kitten to stop this behaviour. The first thing that is important to understand is WHY.  There is a reason your cat or kitten is biting.  Knowing why is the key to stopping it.  The way to train a nervous kitty for example is the exact opposite as training an aggressive player.  If you don't understand why you may actually reinforce the bad behavior by trying to train them with the wrong technique. I know we like to think that training dogs and training cats is similar.  I say maybe.  But I usually think about training or teaching cats like training children.  While dogs do have definite individuality (and certainly have distinct personalities) cats seem to take it to a completely new level of independence.  What works for one cat does not always work for another.  Think about a child that loves to read and enjoys being alone vs. a child that wants to be outside or playing with friends.  You would get a different reaction from the outdoorsy active child sent...
